母の影響もあって、基本的には天然繊維が好きだけど、化学繊維にも色々な種類があって、天然素材のような質感のものもあるし、様々な機能が付加されたものが増えている。
最近、よく耳にする「機能性繊維」。
機能性繊維は、化学繊維に様々な機能を付加した繊維。
日本人なら誰もが知っている（？）保温性に優れた肌着のおかげで、寒い冬も薄着で過ごせるようになった。
メカニズムは「体から蒸発する水分を利用して発熱して、繊維間の空気の層に熱をためて保温性を高める」ということらしい。
「機能性繊維」は、汗や加齢臭のニオイを消臭してくれる「消臭繊維」、寝具なら「防ダニ繊維」、さらにトルマリンやスクワランを練りこんだ「美容・健康繊維」など多種多様。
今の時期なら、肌の乾燥を防いでくれそうな保湿繊維がいいかな？
涼感・冷感繊維は、夏に試してみたい！
アンケートを実施するにあたって考えてみると、私自身、化学繊維のことを全くわかっていないと痛感した。
店頭のポップや商品のタグで「○○繊維使用」と書かれたものを目にはしても、それぞれの特性もメカニズムもあまり知る機会がない。
先日、船場センタービルの靴下屋で、コットン100％のレッグウォーマーを見つけ、「これ、春物？寒くない？」と聞いたら、店長さんが「コットンは触れた瞬間は温くないように感じるけど、夏は涼しいし、冬は暖かで、毛玉もできへんからええよ。」と教えてくれた。
ちょうど、毛玉でダメになったレッグウォーマーの代わりを探しててん！おっちゃん、流石！私が毛玉に困っているって知ってたんやろか？
おかげでコットンの特徴を知ることができた。私自身は、こういう会話で繊維に関する知識が増えてきたと思うが、今は、なんでもネットで調べられるので、店頭で教えてくれる機会も減っているように思うのだけど、どうだろう？
先日、布団の側生地メーカーの社長さんから、「寝具は直接、肌に触れるので、使われている生地で温かさや快適さが変わる」とお聞きした。包んであれば良いってもんじゃないんだね！
確かに、肌に直接触れる肌着や寝具こそ、きちんとした繊維の知識を持って選ばないとね、と思う。

繊維の種類
繊維を大別すると、天然繊維と化学繊維がある。
一言で言えば、「天然繊維」は自然界に生息する植物や動物を原料として作られた繊維、「化学繊維」は人工的に作られた繊維。
衣類などに使われる天然繊維には、植物繊維と動物繊維に大別される。
植物繊維には綿・麻、動物繊維には羊毛・絹・カシミアなどがあり、これらに化学的な加工を加えていないものを指す。

化学繊維の中にも、再生繊維、半合成繊維、合成繊維がある。
「再生繊維」は、天然原料（植物の主成分であるセルロース）を用いて作られる。パルプから作られる「レーヨン」や「ポリノジック」、綿花のくずから作る「キュプラ」。
「半合成繊維」は、セルロースやタンパク質のような天然の原料に化学薬品を反応させて作られる。アセテートやプロミックス。
「合成繊維」は、石油から人工的に合成される繊維。ポリエステル、ナイロン、アクリル、ビニロン等。
